ABOUT US

For some time Peter Bradley in NSW and Ian Barnes in Victoria were independently gathering names of Moto Morini owners with a view to getting an association started. It was inevitable that sooner or later they would stumble across each other. The result was the formation of The Classic Italian Motorcycle Association of Australia (CIMAA).

Initially the Association was no more than a mailing list for an irregular newsletter, however the Association is now a reality. The aims of CIMAA are to foster the preservation and restoration of classic Italian motorcycles, to provide a point of contact between owners, to conduct social events for members, and to provide Club Plates for owners of eligible motorcycles (at this time available in NSW and Victoria).

CIMAA is dedicated to the needs of owners of older Italian motorcycles and motorcycles from marques no longer in production or not imported into Australia. People who own older Ducati, Moto Guzzi, Laverda, or Vespa models fall into this category as well as owners of Aermacchi, Benelli, Bianchi, Bimota, Fantic,, Gilera, Lambretta, Maserati, Moto Morini, MV Agusta, Parilla, and many others.

In all States there is a Club Plate or Historic Vehicle Registration scheme that allows members of approved classic and vintage clubs to be issued plates under the rules of their respective State Government Roads authority. This scheme allows vehicles to attend published club events and allows limited use of the vehicle for maintenance purposes. CIMAA currently supports the Club Plate schemes in NSW and Victoria. In order to comply with the requirements of the Club Plate Scheme, the vehicle must be over 30 years old in NSW or over 25 years old in Victoria, and must pass a safety inspection performed by a CIMAA scrutineer. There is a considerable saving on the full registration cost.

CIMAA has a few special tools and workshop manuals and has information on where these might be obtained. Individual members will often help each other out in this area and spares are bought, sold or swapped. Members also have a collective bank of technical knowledge and mechanical expertise.

Approximately every two months the Moto d'Epoca newsletter is published and a hardcopy posted out to every member. An email version is not currently made available. The newsletter contains the upcoming events, local Italian motorcycle news, members articles, Italian food, For Sale/Wanted advertisements and more.
